Poisonous Orb

My Third Project at Glaucaus Games was once again making a portfolio piece, this time with a shorter timespan, as it took around 2-3 weeks of work to complete, and I was given the instructions to work closely with a particular kind of game style, and I chose Valorant. Because of this, I was also tasked with expanding my knowledge with an area I've never worked with before; Flipbooks!

I was mainly inspired by https://www.artstation.com/davidecanaletti work on making "Fan-Art VFX" for Valorant, as I thought it looked very cool. I then took a lot of ideas and inspiration from a Roleplaying Game I play, Pathfinder 2nd Edition, and ended up landing that I wanted to recreate the "Acidic Spittle" shot from a weapon known as a Drake Rifle. Due to the time constraints on the project, I had to scope down a bit, going from having a full effect to focusing just on the main "projectile" or "orb" itself.

I would say that around half the time in this project was spent on the orb material, while the other half focused on perfecting the flipbooks and making them look as smooth as possible. I really enjoyed making the material for the orb, especially tuning it to be so modifiable and re-usable for later projects. Learning Flipbooks was a very slow and painful process, but I think in the end it was well worth it; Even if it was not something I particularly enjoyed, I think it will be a very useful skill to have in the future.

Overall I just thought the orb looks really cool and is extremely complex for being just a single material, so I'm quite happy with this slightly smaller project!
